How I Learned to Prioritize Myself as a Mom and Entrepreneur

Balancing motherhood, work, and personal growth is no easy feat. As a mom and entrepreneur, I’ve often found myself pulled in a million different directions—between taking care of my kids, managing my business, and trying to find time for myself.

For years, I put everyone else’s needs before my own, thinking that’s what a “good mom” should do. But over time, I realized that neglecting myself wasn’t helping anyone especially me. In fact, it was leaving me exhausted, overwhelmed, and unable to show up as my best self for my family or my work.

Today, I want to share how I learned to prioritize myself and offer tips for other moms and entrepreneurs trying to find balance in their busy lives.

The Struggle to Prioritize Myself

When my kids were younger, prioritizing myself felt impossible. My days were filled with diaper changes, feeding them, and endless to-do lists. By the time I got a moment to myself, I was too tired to do anything but get to rest. I told myself that this was just the season of life I was in—that someday when the kids were older, I’d have time to focus on me.

As my kids are growing and becoming more independent, I realized that “someday” had already started. I couldn’t keep putting myself on the back burner. If I wanted to be the best mom and entrepreneur I could be, I needed to take care of myself first.

I Learned to Prioritize Myself

Here’s how I shifted my mindset and started making myself a priority:

1. I Made taking care Of Myself A priority:

I started by focusing on self-care and wellness. I included my personal needs in my to-do list and followed it. This helped me feel more important and in control. It put me in a good mental space and made me happier to do other things.

2. Using Spare Time Wisely:

I started using my spare time to relax more instead of thinking about what chore to do next or catch up with. This wasn’t easy at first—I felt guilty for taking time away from my kids or my business. But I quickly realized that taking care of myself wasn’t selfish; it was necessary. During this time, I would watch a movie, prepare a nice meal for myself, rest, or learn something new on platforms like YouTube or TikTok.

3. Setting Boundaries:

I learned to say no to things that didn’t align with my priorities. Whether it was a work project or a social commitment, I started asking myself, *Is this worth my time and energy?* If the answer was no, I politely declined.

4. Creating a Routine:

I gradually established a daily routine that included time for work, family, and self-care. Having a structure in place made it easier to balance everything without feeling overwhelmed.

5. Asking for Help:

I realized that I didn’t have to struggle on my own. I asked for help when I needed support.

Tips for Balancing Family, Work, and Personal Growth

If you’re a mom and entrepreneur trying to find balance, here are some tips that might help:

1. Start Small:

You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Start with one small act of self-care, like taking 10 minutes to meditate or going for a short walk.

2. Schedule “Me Time:

Treat your self-care time as an appointment that can’t be missed. Whether it’s 30 minutes or an hour, block it off on your calendar and stick to it.

3. Be Flexible:

Some days will be more chaotic than others, and that’s okay. If you can’t stick to your routine, don’t beat yourself up. Just pick up where you left off the next day.

4. Focus on Quality, Not Quantity:

When you’re with your kids or working on your business, be fully present. This allows you to make the most of your time and feel more fulfilled.

5. Celebrate Small Wins:

Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Did you finally finish that book you’ve been meaning to read? That’s a win! Did you take a nap instead of scrolling through your phone? Another win!

Final Thoughts: You Deserve It

Learning to prioritize myself as a mom and entrepreneur has been a game-changer. It’s allowed me to show up as a better parent, a more focused business owner, and a happier, healthier version of myself. I’ve realized that taking care of myself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
