My first real hiking experience | Hiking Mount Yéyé
I've always loved hiking but never really got the opportunity to do it until last week when a friend suggested I join her hiking group to go up Mt Yéyé.
It felt exciting and scary at the same time as I had to make quick arrangements to make the hiking possible. Finding someone to stay with the kids, buying snacks and hiking shoes the day before were on the list of preparations to make the event possible and successful.
I remembered one time I registered with my classmates to hike Mt Eloumdem with our lecturer. Some of us paid for transportation by bus to the meeting point. On our way there the bus made a stop for people to buy snacks. Where we stopped were our other classmates who didn't take the bus with us. This made me think that we were already at the meeting point. So I got out of the bus and joined the others who later decided hike the mountain to get to the meeting point 😆. That's how I had my first experience with hiking. I don't know if we reached the summit as we were simply finding out way to the other side, I had no hiking shoes or even sport shoes on, infact I wasn't ready for that hiking experience at all just like the others looking at the way we were dressed. I don't know who came up with the idea of reaching the meeting point by passing through the mountain.
Anyway, I had my first real hiking experience a last Sunday and it made me feel great 👍🏾😃
Here are photos from the my hiking experience

The beginning was steep and hard. It got me thinking if I was going to make it to the top. |
At this point, I wished I was at home spending my Sunday like I normally did because I was already running out of breath and I couldn't keep up with the pace of others. |
It was clear that I needed to go at my pace. Thoughts of regret were full in my head at this point. To think that we only just started 😭. I was already sweating profusely. |
Concentration 😂 |
I got used to climbing and it got better eventually. |
Almost at the top 😺 |
Finally at the top. |
Officially a hiker 😉 |
Refreshment |
Catching up 😀 and resting before descending |
Found this giant cobweb on our way down. I couldn't even take a picture of all of it. |
Almost done and it was easier to descend though my knees were shaking and hurting. |
We came, we conquered ✌🏾 |
Ok at this point I said this isn't different from 2:0 (deux zero) |
Yum 😋 I enjoyed my meal ( pepper soup) |
Caught making a selfie 😁 🤳🏾 |
It was a great experience and I want to do this again. The team is very friendly and supportive so I had a great time. I think it's a great exercise that helps to deal with negative emotions because I felt uncomfortable and feelings of frustration developed sometimes because it was hard but they cleared up because I had to keep going. I had to think of achieving the objective which is getting to the summit and so I had to learn to put my frustrations aside and get it done. It was like having a hard conversation with myself and deciding to do the right thing though it's hard.
It was fulfilling at the end and I'm super proud of myself for doing this.
On that note, thank you guys for reading, I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you on the next one. 😘
