How To Sweeten Folere Without Sugar | Recipe for Zobo Without Sugar
Foleré is a natural drink I love to make to reduce my intake of carbonated drinks. It is made from the flowers of the hibiscus plant. Some cultures make soup with it - something I'm yet to taste.
Most times when I made Foleré I added sugar to sweeten it. This bothered me especially one time when I drank several liters of Foleré within two days. I was frightened by the amount of sugar I drank within a few hours. So I decided to replace sugar with Dates. It's a more expensive option but its healthier than sugar.
This is how to sweeten Foleré without using sugar
Ingredients
For this healthier option of Foleré or Bisap or Zobo, you need these ingredients; Foleré, Pineapples, ginger, dates and water.
Method
Wash the dates properly, take out the seeds and soak them until they are soft enough to be blended.
Wash ginger thoroughly and peel if you prefer. Hit, mash or grind the ginger and add to the Foleré with some water. The measurement of the water added is up to you or according to how concentrated you want it to be.
Boil the Foleré and ginger until the water is quite red. I don't put a lot of water to make it concentrated in colour, taste and flavour.
Turn off the fire and let it to cool. Sieve out the Foleré flowers and set the liquide aside.
Peel the pineapple and blend it with the soaked dates. Add it to the Foleré juice and mix. You can sieve if you want.
Refrigerate and serve cold
