Recipe || Stewed Njama-Njama (Huckleberry) & Pumpkin
Njama-njama as we call it in Cameroon is a very common vegetable in the English-speaking part of the country. Many villages eat it with various tubers and fufu. There are many methods to cook this vegetable and one of them is with palm oil.
Today, I'm sharing with you my recipe for stewed Njama-njama which is accompanied by something special which is boiled pumpkin.
This is a very delicious meal trust me. And you have come to the right place to get this recipe because I cook it so well. Oh yes, I do.
So let's dive into our recipe.
How To Cook Stewed Njama-Njama With Red Oil & Pumpkins
Ingredients
- Tomatoes
- Onions
- Palm oil; also known as a red oil
- Njama-njama (huckleberry)
- Seasoning (Maggi and salt)
- Pepper (optional)
- Pumpkins to eat with vegetables.
Cooking
- Wash and slice the tomatoes and onion.
-
- Wash the pumpkin and cut it into two halves.
- Remove the seeds in the middle and then cut them into smaller pieces if the slices are too big.
- You can dry the seeds and use them for egusi soup.
- Take out the strong stems from the vegetable and slice it.
- Wash it well. Take out the vegetables from the water each time you wash to leave out the sand or ground particles. Wash at least 3 times.
- Put in a to and cook. You may not need to add water when cooking because the vegetables contain water. But check that the pot doesn't get dry.
- Also, cook the pumpkin with little water as it may get too soft if too much water is added.
- Drain the vegetables when ready.
- Heat some red oil and fry the sliced tomatoes, onions and pepper.
- Add seasoning to the frying ingredients and stir. Another way to season it is to add seasoning to the vegetables instead.
- When it begins to get dry add the vegetables to it and stir well.
- Put off the fire or take it down when properly mixed.
- Peel pumpkins (if you prefer the back taken out), slice and serve.
I eat my pumpkins with the peel when it is soft. But do this only when the pumpkin was cultivated or grown organically. Also, wash the pumpkin very well if you intend to eat the back too.
Life Lately || Travelling To Harvest Groundnuts, Weaning My Baby & Getting My First Brand Deal!
This is what has been happening to me lately. I hope you guys are doing fine and that life is treating you well too. Let's dive right in.
Life Lately || Travelling To Harvest Groundnuts, Weaning My Baby & My First Brand Deal!
Groundnut Harvesting...
It's harvesting season in Cameroon so we travelled to Tangui to help my mum and grandma harvest groundnuts. They had planted about four buckets of groundnuts and really needed help with the harvesting. We spent a week and a few days there.
I mostly stayed at home to take care of housework and cooking while the others went to the farm. I went to harvest once and it was interesting as I haven't been to the farm in a long time.
The best part of our stay was eating the freshly harvested boiled groundnuts. I decided to have no moderation while eating so enjoyed myself. My fear of putting on weight was there but I tried to balance that by skipping breakfast, lunch or supper and eating my groundnuts in their place.
Eating groundnuts became my source of comfort because I was weaning my daughter and my breasts were so sore. Sleeping or carrying her was so difficult because it was painful. So painful. But by the time we were about to return to Yaoundé, the pain and soreness reduced. Thank God for the tips I got from my mum and grandma. Honestly, I thought the pain will never end and that my breasts will never get back to normal. But now they are regaining the size they had before I got pregnant and it feels amazing to see my body change that way.
Talking about changes, I reached a major milestone in my blogging career and I feel so happy about it. I got my very first brand deal from a Cameroonian cosmetic brand! This is the motivation I have been praying to God for and it's here. I announced this first and did an unboxing of the products in a video on my YouTube Channel.

These products came right on time because I did some braids which cut my hair in front. I need treatment to help it grow again. I also need products to soften my hair since I'm keeping natural hair right now. And I want a dandruff free hair journey with no scalp itches. I really want to step up my hair game so I have been thinking of products to use for that.
While at my mum's, I started using the products and I will share a review with you guys when I'm done. The products they sent to me by Green Life Bate (GLB) and are natural hair products to treat hair, make your hair grow and stop itchy scalp. I received three products which included a har shampoo, hair butter and hair growth oil. I'm putting them to the test so I'll share the results with you after I use them.

We are back in Yaoundé and it is back to business and usual. I thank God for giving us journey mercies throughout this trip. I hope that you enjoyed this experience I shared with you. Thanks for reading and I pray that you support my blog by sharing my posts with your friends on social media and leaving your thoughts in the comment section below this post. Thank you!
I was going to make a vlog of my stay in Tangui at my mum's but I lost all the videos I made so it's unfortunate. I feel so bad and hurt right now. My phone went off unexpectantly and everything got lost.
To make the mood better, here is a picture of my tomatoes. I returned and found them bright red. I grew these tomatoes in a broken bucket on my balcony. I really love doing this and intend to plant more. I will share more about it in subsequent posts.

Living In A Postpartum Body - My Experience
I never had the courage to as any pregnant woman that question. Not even my mother nor my friends who had babies before me. (I don't know why)
My question was answered when I got pregnant. It rather felt itchy as my belly stretched every day. God is wonderful is all I could say.
But with my curiosity put aside, another question arose - How does all this stretch get back in place?
Life In A Postpartum Body
That question was meant to be answered after I put to bed. And that is what has led me to write this post about life in a postpartum body.
The photos were taken about two months after the birth of my daughter.

That morning I told myself I was gonna dress up and take photos for my blog. I didn't want to feel like motherhood had taken over my life.
These jeans and polka dot shirt was the only outfit that could fit and make me look fashionable. The jeans are high-waist, so they covered and supported my flappy, recovering belly. I felt snatched.
The difficulty in dressing up after having a baby is real. And that is what reminds you every day that your body has changed - you have a new body now. It may be a hard pill to swallow for some women. But I loved my body for going through pregnancy with such strength. I looked at my body with pride. Every stretch mark, fat and flappy skin were signs of strength to me.
I put on more weight as time went on but it was ok. I hardly even noticed it along the way.
The flip side...
When my daughter was approaching ten months, I started feeling like she was grown so I should no longer look like I just had a baby. I started noticing the weight I had gained and wished my belly was smaller.
Mind you somewhere along the line I used to jog but had to stop because baby's sleeping hours changed.
I started wanting to lose weight so that I should no longer look too motherly.
When my daughter turned eleven months, we returned to Yaounde from my mom's and I felt a greater pressure to transform my motherly looking body to a younger looking one.
I wasn't used to looking that way so I had mixed feelings about loving my present body and wanting to look like my old self.
I knew I couldn't get my old body back, we never do. We only get a better body but not the one we had before. All I wanted was to not be seen as "she let motherhood take the best of her". A number of people were already thinking that way about me. I honestly didn't care before but when I returned to Yaounde, it began to bother me.
I realized that started I caring about how other people thought of my body, especially those who knew me before my pregnancy.
This period was tough for me mentally. It felt like I wasn't proud of my strong body anymore (though I was) and that I wanted to lose weight for other people and not myself.
Living In A Postpartum Body
Like they say "When a baby is born, a mother is born too". The changes after pregnancy are hard to ignore and it requires a mother to adapt to them after each pregnancy.
- There is a lot of self-judgment about your body, your looks, how you see yourself and how others see you now.
- Mixed feelings are common. You feel good on some days about yourself body and on some days you don't.
- You feel like taking care of your body means you are putting your baby second. This mom-guilt can last forever but you need to realize that you need to focus on you as well.
Creating A Balance
If you are a mom reading this I want you to know that it's ok to have highs and lows with your postpartum body. Every day isn't going to be the same. But never let the low moments take the best of you. Your body did a good job by bringing forth life and it is recovering. Our recovery times and processes are different.
I have been able to lose some weight these past months and I love the new changes. The thing that makes me happy about this is that I want this for myself and not because others will look at me somehow.
Though I want to lose some more, I am currently having a good relationship with my body. I love what I see in the mirror because I see the progress I have made which makes me feel like everything is possible.
That's all that matters.
4 Different Types Of Fear & How To Overcome Them By Yourself
One of the biggest things that's stopping people from having what they want in life is FEAR. Fear can paralyze you and make you unhappy because it stops you from doing the things you want to do. That's why it is important to discover what kind of fear you are dealing with and find solutions to get it out of your way.
Here are four different types of fear you may be feeling.
You fear something but you don't know what it is. You have no clear knowledge of the danger you think you may come across. It can also be when you are not clear about the possible effects the danger might have on you. This is the case with what we are currently facing now in the world which is the fear of COVID-19. We are afraid to get it and this virus has caused many people to lose their jobs, therefore, causing them to fear what will happen to them in the future.
You are afraid of not succeeding in the things you want to do or achieve. Fear of failure comes from a series or a pattern of failure like when the people you know have failed in the past or you have experienced a series of failures. This may make you think or start to believe that you will fail again when you try the next thing or project.
You fear being successful or achieving your goal. This usually stems from the fact that we have attributed negative stereotypes to money and being successful. For example, many people believe that rich people are heartless, they are unhappy or that money is evil. These beliefs can affect your desire to succeed because you may be afraid of being a bad person when you eventually become rich.
To begin, it is important to find out the root cause or origin of your fear. It could be a series of incidents or one incident. You can talk about it with someone you trust if you feel comfortable or talk about it alone - to yourself. Don't recall the events to correct what happened but think of how those moments have made you a survivor, a stronger person. Think of the lessons learnt and how you did not die because of what happened. Yes. Now you realize that life goes on despite your fears.
In general, it is important to reframe your mind in order to conquer any fears you have. You need to reset your mind to believe that it can overcome that fear and that life goes on despite what you feel.
To do this, you need to visualize yourself facing your fear and then feel the fear and move on from it in your vision.
If you fear to fail, visualize yourself working on a project you are currently doing or intend to do. The project could be public speaking for example. Imagine yourself preparing and delivering your speech. Do the action and live the moment in your mind. Allow yourself to feel the fear and pressure. Also, allow yourself to make all the mistakes that you fear making in your vision. When you are finished delivering your speech in your mind, imagine yourself learning your lessons and moving on.
If you do this exercise often, you will realise that you will come to realise that your reaction to what you fear is more important than what you fear. And that's what gives you control over your fears.
Imagining yourself making all the mistakes and feeling afraid makes your mind realise that it's ok to fail or feel afraid but it's not the end of the world if things go wrong. This will help your mind to stop freaking out when you are faced with your fears.
Here are four different types of fear you may be feeling.
4 Different Types Of Fear & How To Overcome Them By Yourself
Fears and Symptoms
Fear of the Unknown,
You fear something but you don't know what it is.
Fear of Failure,
You are afraid of not succeeding in the things you want to do or achieve. Fear of failure comes from a series or a pattern of failure like when the people you know have failed in the past or you have experienced a series of failures. This may make you think or start to believe that you will fail again when you try the next thing or project.
Fear of Success,
You fear being successful or achieving your goal. This usually stems from the fact that we have attributed negative stereotypes to money and being successful. For example, many people believe that rich people are heartless, they are unhappy or that money is evil. These beliefs can affect your desire to succeed because you may be afraid of being a bad person when you eventually become rich.
Fear of What Other People Think
You fear other people's opinions, thoughts and reactions towards you and what you want to do. This is very common with people who don't have enough self-confidence and who tend to value the opinion of others more than their own opinion or feelings. In a situation where the person has always been told what to do or made to do what they don't want to do right from childhood, it may kill self-esteem and make them value more what others think than their personal opinion. Those who feel this fear are more people pleasers.
These are the common types of fear that people encounter and these are the fears that make most people not achieve their dreams.
How To Overcome Your Fears.
Overcoming your fears is not an easy thing. It takes lots of courage and some time to do so. But the good news is that it is very possible to overcome your fears. You have all that you need (courage and strength) to do so.
What I want you to understand about fear is that: fear is a defence and protective mechanism put in place by your body to protect you from a danger that it can sense coming. That's why when you feel afraid you want to escape or get away from the danger even without thinking about it thoroughly
This mostly occurs because your mind is aware that what's going to happen isn't good for you. So to stop fear you need to train your mind to believe that something good can come out of this.
This takes time of course but if you do it often you'll be able to minimize your fears.
Find the root cause
To begin, it is important to find out the root cause or origin of your fear. It could be a series of incidents or one incident. You can talk about it with someone you trust if you feel comfortable or talk about it alone - to yourself. Don't recall the events to correct what happened but think of how those moments have made you a survivor, a stronger person. Think of the lessons learnt and how you did not die because of what happened. Yes. Now you realize that life goes on despite your fears.
Visualize
In general, it is important to reframe your mind in order to conquer any fears you have. You need to reset your mind to believe that it can overcome that fear and that life goes on despite what you feel.
To do this, you need to visualize yourself facing your fear and then feel the fear and move on from it in your vision.

Imagining yourself making all the mistakes and feeling afraid makes your mind realise that it's ok to fail or feel afraid but it's not the end of the world if things go wrong. This will help your mind to stop freaking out when you are faced with your fears.
Negative experiences have their benefits too. If you train your mind to see that then you will feel less fear. Remind yourself that you'll be ok after the incident even if it is an unknown or uncertain situation.
In addition, face your fears in real life. Don't be hard on yourself and remember that overcoming your fears is a journey which is different for everyone.
I hope you find the strength and patience to overcome whatever fears you may feel right now. It's a difficult time but stay strong. You can do this.
NB: Seek professional help if you can't overcome your fears by yourself. It's ok to seek help.

The significant change in weather from long sunny days to dark skies and rainfall requires a new set of clothes to either resurface or to be purchased.
Here are some outfits you will need to face this rainy season in Cameroon without stress.
Sweater
Of course. Need I say more? A sweater is a very necessary outfit for your wardrobe during the rainy season. It will be worth considering to have outing sweaters and sweaters to wear at home for the rainy season.Jackets
These can serve the purpose of pullovers but they are more stylish. You can wear jackets when you want to look fancy and stylish yet you want to stay warm.
Leggings
Leggings are great when you still want to wear your short dresses despite the cold weather. They will keep your legs warm and protected from the cold.
Hats
Hats are very important because they protect your head from the cold. They can also make your outfit stylish.
Scarfs
Scarfs are stylish but they can replace pullovers if you go for the large and thicker ones. The smaller scarfs can be used to protect your neck from the cold especially when you are on a bike. Scarfs also come in handy when the rain starts unexpectedly and you don't have an umbrella. You can use it to protect your hair, bag or any other fragile thing you may be carrying.
Boots
Boots are the best shoes for the rainy season because they protect your feet from the rain. They are usually made from good leather or plastic. You can own different kinds of boots for different purposes or outfits. Some boots are more stylish and others are quite plain or fabricated for a particular purpose. Some have heels some don't. So choose your boots according to how you need them.
A Quick Breathing Exercise To Calm Your Anxiety
One of the dangerous effects of the pandemic is that it can cause anxiety. Anxiety doesn't feel good at all. It starts slowly and then takes over your mind and body. That's why you have to fight it as soon as possible. Don't give it an opportunity to install itself in your body.
Repeat this a few more times or until you feel calm.
I hope this exercise was helpful to you. Remember that anxiety is only a feeling and not what really is.
The panic caused by this coronavirus is quite serious. The fear of contracting the disease plus the social distancing, isolation or quarantine has had us all experience fear on different levels. It is therefore important to work on our minds and make sure that we eliminate anxiety from our lives.

Apart From Pullovers, Here Are 5 Other Ways To Keep Warm During The Rainy Season
It's officially the rainy season in Cameroon when we are in March and it begins to rain almost every day. One of the things you can't ignore during the rainy season in Cameroon is the cold weather which may lead to you catching a cold if you don't keep warm. Wearing a sweater isn't the only way to keep warm.
Tea or coffee is a great way to warm up during cold times this season. I love tea and I drink a lot of tea to feel warm. You can also make yourself a hot chocolate drink with products like Martinal if you want a sweet and flavoured drink.

2. Eat some pepper soup
I shared a recipe on how to cook pepper soup in a previous post which you can see by clicking here.
3. Stay indoors
Stay at home to feel warm because the cold comes from outside. Hahaha. If you don't have anything important to do then stay indoors and keep warm.
4. Warm-up your home
To increase your warmth, you can heat your home with a heater or a chimney. There are little affordable heaters which look like fans. It's easy to get one from 'brocants' as they are commonly called or places where second-hand electronics are sold.
5. Stay in bed
Make your blanket your best friend, wrap yourself in it and stay in bed when it's cold.
