From the title, you know that this post is dedicated to the victims of the massacre in Kumba that took place on the 24th of October 2020. 

Today is a national day of mourning because of this event.

I pray especially for the parents of Victory who was their only son. Their pain is immense and deep. A child they waited to have for ten years was taken away from them in such a brutal way. I pray for the soul of the mother who couldn't take it and dies because three of her kids were killed in this massacre. May she rest in peace alongside her children.

May all of them who lost their lives during that event rest in peace. We feel sad but all we can do is pray for their souls to find eternal rest. 

I hope you say a prayer for them too.

While this quote makes being yourself seem easy, it is not easy to be fully yourself in the world we live in.  A lot of people face the problem of not knowing who they are because they are trying to be what people expect of them and not what they feel or think they should be.

Balancing Being Yourself  & Being What Others Expect Of You

It is important to find yourself and be yourself at all times but the influence of others can be overwhelming. The people in our lives may expect us to be different or act in a certain way which may not be the same as what we want. And this can be disturbing especially if you so really want to be you.

Their expectations of us can lead us to prejudge ourselves because we begin to see ourselves through their eyes. So learn to distinguish between your thoughts and the thoughts of others and keep the thoughts of others aside when thinking of the things you want. 

Don't make pleasing others a priority no matter what. Consider the desires of others but always try to understand their motive and what the outcome will be before you give importance to their expectations.

Parents for example want us to do certain jobs or careers and they may take various measures to make us do it. But if your desire is to do something different from what they expect of you it can be hard to control. To deal with this it is important to find out the motive for their desire. What is making them want you to do the career they chose? Is it because they really care about you and really want you to succeed or is it mostly for their own pride? Also, ask yourself what will be the outcome or result if you choose to do as they say or as you want? If you do as they say you may succeed but you may be miserable or you may not excel in it because your heart isn't there. if you do what you want you will be more fulfilled and happy and have a greater chance of succeeding because it's your passion so you will be more determined to succeed. 

That is a clear example of how to balance being yourself and what others expect of you. Do this to see if what others want for you is best for you instead of what you want. And if you will feel better doing what others want instead.

As you do this remember to be as objective as possible and always prioritize your happiness. Don't be afraid to be yourself when you are convinced that it is the best thing for you. The world will eventually adjust to your choices and desires.

It is important to put in efforts to develop yourself so that you can be a better person and not be taken for granted. So that you can also educate your children your sisters and other women around you to make them empowered.

To be smart doesn't mean to be the most intelligent woman in the room but it means that you are intelligent enough to know the best or right decision to take when faced with any situation or difficulty because you are informed and awake.

 Ever since the 24-10-2020, I haven't really felt right.

In the afternoon that day, I learned of the shooting of children between the ages of 9 and 12 in school while they were learning in their classrooms. They were gunned down at such short range that the images were so horrible to look at. My God!

This happened in Kumba. That Saturday, I was so touched by the incident, but little did I know how much it will still affect my mood the following day. Today is Sunday and I still feel so terrible as I get more details of the incident. 

I Don't Know How To Feel #EndAnglophonecrisis

Those children were not only young and aspiring Cameroonians. But they were also the only hope of their parents who sacrificed for them to go and get educated. 

Whatever the case may be, the innocent population is the one going through most of the pain and loss. That's why we need to #EndAnglophonecrisis. This is so heartbreaking.

Let those involved take responsibility and make peace. Feelings have been hurt, families have been destroyed and promises have been broken but we can't keep on destroying ourselves because we want to mend the past hurt and regret. 

My heart hurts for the parents of these children. I pray they have the courage to surmount this. My heart hurts even more because we don't know when it's going to end; or if this will be the last. 

It's not easy to continue living like this didn't happen. But unfortunately, we now have to live remembering that on the 24-10-2020 innocent children were killed in their classroom with such brutality. Their lives were not worth wasting.

Let's #EndAnglophonecrisis 

Women have been brought up to believe that suffering is part of their life. That they must suffer from a man if they want a better relationship. That they must be the ones to clean everyone's mess. That they must put their desires and dreams aside and watch or support others to reach their own dreams while they hurt inside. That they must support the bad treatment they get from men in their homes or the mistreatments from society and keep hurting inside though they pretend everything is alright.

But this is not why we were born, dear woman. 

Everyone is meant to struggle, suffer or get hurt at some point in life but it's not meant to be the norm for you. It's not right for you to believe that you are meant to suffer or get hurt every time. We have accepted our fate in suffering so much that we don't feel surprised when it happens. We just accept it and find ways to cope with it instead of finding ways to end it. 

(African) Women, You Are Not Born To Hurt Or Suffer

Change your way of thinking my dear and think like a smart lady. 

You need to believe that you deserve a better life. Sufferings may come but let them be for things that are really worth it. let it be for things that you desire too and not only for the sake of others. Suffer for the things you desire but don't suffer for the sake of suffering my dear.

You can get good things in your life if you believe that you deserve them. You don't have to minimize your ability to attract good things easily to your life. You can have a ready-made man. You must not suffer with a man in order to feel worthy of reaping the benefits in the future. You can have brilliant ideas that work out and flourish on the first try. Just believe, work hard and put your desires on the table as others have done. Because your desires are valid too.
