And if I’m being honest, all of that can take a toll on how you look and how you feel.

Not because you don’t care about yourself, but because life gets heavy.

That was my reality.

I had my first child at 30, and motherhood changed everything. I went through a difficult relationship that I had to walk away from, and I’ve been navigating healing, raising my children, working, and trying to rebuild my life. In the middle of all that, I lost myself a bit—including how I showed up physically.

But over time, I started becoming more intentional.

I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’ve seen real changes in how I look and how I feel. And from my experience, looking better in your 30s is not about doing the most — it’s about focusing on a few things that truly matter.

How To Look Better In Your Thirties 

1. Work on the Basics: Your Skin, Hair, and Outfits

If you want to look better naturally, focus on the three things that make the biggest difference: your skin, your hair, and your outfits.

Start with your skin

Your skin is the foundation. When your skin looks good, even the simplest look feels put together.

You don’t need a complicated routine. Start simple.

Identify your main concern and work on that first:

• If your skin is dry, focus on hydration
• If you have breakouts or irritation, focus on treating that

That’s exactly how I started. My skin was tired, dry, and honestly looked stressed. I had stretch marks, wrinkles, and I could see the effects of everything I was going through.

So I focused on repairing it slowly—using simple products, staying consistent, and giving it time.

But one thing I’ve learned is this:
What you put on your skin is not enough.

Stress shows on your skin.
Your mindset shows on your skin.
How you live shows on your skin.

So alongside skincare, I started working on reducing stress, drinking more water, and eating better. It all works together.

Then your hair

Your hair doesn’t have to be perfect — it just needs to be clean and intentional.

If you’re in a phase where you don’t have time or money to do elaborate hairstyles, keep it simple:

• Neat cornrows
• A clean low cut
• Scarves or headwraps when needed

At some point, I cut my hair because I needed something easy. Later, I grew it out again. When I couldn’t afford frequent salon visits, I stuck to simple cornrows and made sure they were neat.

The difference wasn’t in doing too much — it was in caring again.

And then your outfits

This is where I am still evolving.

Your body can change a lot in your 30s — especially after having children. I’m still working on getting back in shape, and that has affected how I dress.

For me, looking better also meant becoming more intentional about my body and my wardrobe.

I’ve been losing weight gradually, working on my postpartum belly, and getting to a place where I feel more comfortable in my body. I’m not fully there yet, but I’ve made progress.

At the same time, I went through my wardrobe and removed what no longer fits—physically and mentally.

Now, when I buy clothes, I think differently.
I’m not just buying randomly—I’m buying toward the version of myself I’m becoming.

You don’t need a full wardrobe. You just need direction.

2. Take Your Hygiene and Health Seriously

This one is simple but powerful.

Good hygiene and good health will always reflect on how you look.

Taking care of your body—bathing regularly, staying clean, smelling fresh—it sounds basic, but it makes a huge difference in how you carry yourself and how others perceive you.

Then there’s your health.

• Eat balanced meals
• Drink water
• Get treatment when you’re unwell
• Move your body

Exercise doesn’t have to be intense.

Right now, I mostly dance for exercise. Some days I don’t feel like doing structured workouts, so I just move in a way that feels good. And that’s enough.

The goal is not perfection — it’s consistency.

When you feel good physically, it shows. There’s a confidence that comes with knowing you are taking care of yourself.

3. Make Time to Rest, Relax, and Enjoy Life

This might be the most underrated part of looking good.

In your 30s, rest is not a luxury — it’s necessary.

Life is full. Responsibilities are real. And for many of us, sleep is not always easy to get, especially as moms or working women.

But you have to take rest seriously.

Sleep when you can.
Rest when you can.
Even if it’s just lying down and doing nothing — it matters.

I’ve had to learn this the hard way. I can’t function well when I’m exhausted, and it shows in my face, my mood, and everything.

Find things that help you relax

For me:

• Taking care of my plants
• Watching movies (especially Nollywood Romance)
• Just having quiet moments

These things help me slow down and feel like myself again.

You need something that reminds you that life is not just responsibilities and bills.

It can be anything:

• Reading
• Writing
• Going out occasionally
• Trying something new, like art sessions or visiting galleries

Even if it’s small, it matters.

Let your mind rest

This is something we don’t talk about enough.

Your mind needs breaks.

Moments where you’re not overthinking, not worrying, not planning — just being.

Because when your mind is constantly overwhelmed, it reflects on your face, your energy, and your presence.

Looking better in your 30s is not about pressure.

It’s not about chasing perfection.

It’s about taking care of yourself—inside and outside— in a way that fits your current life.

No product can give you the glow that comes from being rested, healthy, and intentional.

And that glow?
It comes from within.
